Journal Entry by Megan Holler on Kairos Speaking Blitz (Friday, Jan. 20, 2012)
Last night was awesome. We did our program at Nueva Jerusalen, a Spanish speaking church in Chicago. I could feel that God was going to do something big last night. As we began to sit down, I assumed that by coincidence I sat next to a man named Marcus. But, our God is big and He doesn’t do coincidences. The night began with worship, and I could feel God in the room. Marcus stood next to me: straight-faced and not uttering a word of the worship. He looked at me and giggled a lot as I worshiped ( I get REALLY into worship.) I began to pray for Marcus. As testimonies started, God was saying “Marcus needs to hear this tonight!” So I prayed that it would speak to him, that God would speak to him.
After the program, we joined together again for another worship song. God said “Pray aloud.” I asked Marcus if I could pray over him. He was hesitant, but finally agreed. The emotions were welling inside of me as God was screaming “This man needs me!” The pastor went to the front of the stage and asked if anyone would like to take their first step and come to the front of the stage. I prayed fervently and unceasingly for Marcus, that he would take the step to the stage. Watching him from the corner of my eye, he didn’t. I was so defeated. I was angry, God was telling me this man needed Him, but yet Marcus wouldn’t go to the front! I sat in disappointment for about five seconds, letting Satan win, until God’s voice came even louder than before, echoing the words of the worship song just sang. “Our God is greater, our God is stronger. I AM GREATER AND STRONGER.” So I kept praying! And as the pastor prayed a salvation prayer, he asked people to repeat after him. At first, Marcus wouldn’t. But I did not relent, and God did not relent either. Marcus’ voice began to echo the pastor, quietly, but he still was saying it. Tears welled up in my eyes as I knew God was grabbing hold of this man’s heart. Marcus’ voice grew louder and more confident, until Amen came and, with a huge smile on his face, he embraced me as my new-found brother.
God is good. He is so amazing. And he listens to my prayers, to all of ours. I could have given up, but God said no. He said to push Satan out, and that Marcus would be His. These things are happening every day, we’re finding new brothers and sisters in Christ. But we have to be confident that God is stronger than us and our will, and He will show us just how much He loves His children. I can guarantee you that I will never stop praying for Marcus.
