Sierra Leone mission trip

Sierra Leone is one of the world’s poorest nations, a dismal 180 out of 182 countries (UN Human Development Report). It also has 20,000 amputees from the war who are begging on the streets. There are many places to serve but few with greater needs.

The Ministry

“Slumming it” will take on a new meaning when you work in slums of Kroo Bay and Falcon Bridge. You’ll develop relationships in schools, detention centers, handicapped homes, and orphanages. You’ll give testimonies, perform dramas, dance, perform with puppets, and play soccer with the local amputee league! You can give a loving touch that will speak volumes to the Sierra Leoneans.

Adventure

Sierra Leone is a beautiful country but one of the poorest in the world! As you shop local markets for djembes (African drums), bright clothes, or a goat (alright, maybe not a goat) you will help the local people support themselves. You will end the mission trip with five nights of debriefing in London. From poor, dry, and underdeveloped to rich, wet, and overdeveloped, London will be a great place to transition back into the western world and debrief your ministry experience.

Spiritual Growth

It’s best summed up by a former student, “America is filled with people who go to church but whose lives may not really reflect Jesus. But in Sierra Leone, when you become a Christian, your whole life changes! I saw the true joy that comes from knowing God, apart from circumstances and everything else in our lives. It challenged me to have that joy in my own life as I go back home.”

New Friends

Your teammates will come from across North America. Ministering in tough conditions will bring you close together. You will learn how to rely on one another and will cement lasting friendships. You will do things together that you did not think you could do and then laugh about it that night. You will learn about each other and pray for one another with care and compassion. You will go home feeling like more than friends. You will leave feeling like family-guaranteed!
