North Africa

Debriefing for the North Africa team has been really intense and good. There’s so much to process. We can’t believe we are down to our last couple days in this place. We spent some time exploring the ancient Medina today. Did anyone get lost? Yep. Everyone did. That’s how you explore medinas.

It’s been an intense week of outreach. So today, the North Africa team day tripped it… to Spain! Turns out, you don’t have to leave Africa to visit Spain. Ceuta, Spain was a total blast. Such a cool piece of the world. The whole North Africa team loved today.

It’s hard to believe we are already on our last week of outreach. The students are having follow up meetings with their contacts and many have been able to study the Bible with their new friends! We are beginning to connect our contacts to the long term workers who will continue to invest in the relationships our students have established.

Last week I sat in on a meeting as Muslim girls asked two of our students “Were we born Christians?” and “Have you ever doubted your God like we have?” Another outreach group was able to share how differently Jesus interacted with women in the Bible as opposed to how women are treated here. Teenagers here seem especially open to the Good News as many of them have expressed their frustrations with Islam. It is beautiful to see our students and Staff Disciplers respond with the truth and hope of the Gospel.

Outreach isn’t always easy. I’ve seen students in tears after they’ve met with a contact multiple times and seen that person reject Jesus. We stopped mid debrief last night to pray for one such woman. And yet our students are really understanding the weight of the Gospel and why these people need Jesus.

Over the weekend we had a fun cultural and heritage day at the Blue City with some of the long-termers. Yesterday two of our students did a wonderful job leading worship for our team and the workers. Our students have also put together a care package for our long-term workers and we are looking forward to making them breakfast Friday. It has been a joy to get to know each of them and we will be sad to part ways until next summer.

Please continue to pray for open hearts as we continue our outreach efforts over the next few days.

For the North Africa Family,

Sarah Shoop
