I read a quote lately that said “adventure is when everything goes wrong” if that is the case we have had a lot of adventure in the past few days. We left Koper, Slovenia on Tuesday the 24th. Because we could not get reservations for our whole group of 22 on the same train we divided into 2 groups. Corin, Katie, and Camryn took a bus with one group from Koper to Ljubljana at 2:45pm to check into their Hostel because they had to leave the next morning at 7:00am. Jen and I left with our group by train at 8:15pm from Koper to Ljubljana.
We were supposed to leave Ljubljana at 11:55pm for Munich, Germany but our train was 30 minutes late which made us miss our next train to Munich so we had to make new reservations and wait in Munich for 2 or 3 hours for our new schedule. We got on our train from Munich at 9:28am and after 3 changes of trains we made it to our destination in Brussels. We had left our hostel at 7:10pm Tuesday and after all night on several trains and all day Wednesday we got to the church we are staying at in Brussels at 7:15pm Wednesday.
Meanwhile Corin’s group was at the train station in Ljubljana ready to go at 7:00am and their train was also late which made them miss their change over in Villach, Austria. They were stuck in Villach and had to wait for a train. They finally got on a train to Frankfurt without a reservation which meant they had to switch up seats that had no reservations on them. After an 11 hour train ride they made it to Frankfurt but could not get a train until Thursday morning at 6:15am. They spent the night on one of the platforms of the train station. They made it to the church in Brussels by 11:00am. It was a joyous reunion for our team. We spent an hour catching up and swapping stories and laughing a ton about the crazy experiences we all had.
One of our theme verses this summer has been James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
God is definitely maturing each of us through the challenges we have faced this summer. Our team handled these past several days like rock stars. They just went with it and did amazing. I overheard one of our students say how Training Camp had prepared them for moments like this. That was music to my ears.
We had all day yesterday to get rested up and the church let us use their washer and dryer to get all of our laundry done. This afternoon we are going into Brussels for ministry. I am looking forward to what God has in store for us here.
