presummerI once found a mythical waterfall.

It was back in 2004 while I was a Peace Corps volunteer on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean. I had heard about a waterfall deep in the forest that no one had actually seen and of which no pictures existed. So I asked friends of mine in the village, a pair of 12-pack-ab-toting twin brothers named Don and Donald (no, really) to be my guides and venture with me. We brought along machetes and a camera, and set out by walking upstream through a river that ran through the village and deep into the rainforest.

We assumed it would be a simple, short trip and be back by noon (we left at 6:30 A.M.). We were wrong. What followed was one of the wildest days of my life. We scaled 30-foot waterfalls, scrambled and hacked our way through bush taller than us, got lost more than once, and engaged in incredibly energy sapping hiking/bouldering for almost 12 straight hours. And yes, we found the waterfall– it was spectacular. However, it was the most physically exhausting day I have ever experienced (sans food, as we foolishly didn’t bring any). At one point, my muscles were so fatigued and exhausted that they just gave out and I couldn’t even pull myself up and over small boulders. As we staggered back into the village, Don’s and Donald’s legs both cramped at the same time (twins, go figure!) and they rolled around on the ground moaning in twin agony.

Later that night, while speaking on the phone with my dad, I mentioned that this crazy day helped me realize that I am capable of so much more than I knew. I was pushed way past what I thought I could handle and kept going.

Don’t make the mistake that we did that day and underestimate your summer with Royal Servants. The fact is, becoming a Royal Servant is no small thing; it’s no small hike that will bring you back by midday–nor is it princess tea time. Becoming a Royal Servant means joining a grand adventure that will challenge and push you and show you that as sons and daughters of the King, you are capable of great things! We will travel together into the unknown, with obstacles and boulders around every corner.

Some of you are still in the decision process for this summer and I want to encourage you to realize the amazing, life changing opportunity that lies in front of you. And specifically, I want to speak to the young men who have yet to make a decision to go — WE NEED YOU — shoulder-to-shoulder with us hacking through the bush! I want to challenge you to consider joining us this summer. There is a spot right now waiting for you on one of our teams this summer. Travel with us as we trek into all that this summer holds.

Important Information

There is still plenty of time to sign up to go on a Royal Servants mission trip. If you are still interested in going, we can help expedite the process. Just shoot us an email or give us a call.
