10 Mission Trip Packing List Essentials
Hannah Henriksen
Deciding what to pack for a mission trip can be daunting, but don't fret. We've got you covered!
Royal Servants has been leading international mission trips for over 40 years. Our staff are seasoned travelers who have used years of experience to formulate this short list of mission trip essentials.
1. Bible
Your Bible is a weapon against the enemy. It is essential to meditate on God’s Word and be filled with His Spirit, especially when on a mission. Consider getting a Bible specifically for your trip, one that is small and easy to carry with you at all times.
2. Journal
A mission trip brings many new and distinct experiences. With so much going on, you will want to document the summer to remember every little detail. Even if journaling isn’t your thing and you only note the highlights, you’ll be grateful you did.
3. Backpack
Your backpack will become your best friend this summer. It will contain all of the essentials, and you won’t go anywhere without it. It is crucial to find a sturdy and comfortable backpack.
4. Passport Belt
Keep your Bible close and your passport closer. A belt keeps your money and passport safe by always having it on your body. You do not want to get stuck in a foreign country without your passport.
5. Travel Pillow
Mission trips are often fast-paced and involve a significant amount of travel. Time in transit is the perfect opportunity to rest and catch up on sleep. So whether you are traveling by train, plane, or automobile, pack a travel pillow and transform any space into a nap zone.
6. Sandals
Sandals are a great addition to your packing list because they keep you cool and dry quickly. You will be walking frequently, so comfort is key. Hiking sandals like Teva, Chaco, or Keen, which provide more support, are an excellent choice.
7. Life Straw
Your health is vital, so having clean drinking water is a must! Research shows that water filter straws can remove most contaminants to make unclean water sources safe for consumption. However, your health is a serious matter. Please do your research and do not compromise quality for cost.
8. Travel Towel
No matter where you go, a travel towel is a must. They are absorbent, lightweight, and quick drying, which makes them especially beneficial for humid or damp climates.
9. Power Adapter
Not all outlets are the same. This small tool also protects your devices against power surges. Make sure the adapter you purchase is fit for the country you are traveling to.
10. Camera
A picture is worth a thousand words. Investing in a point-and-shoot camera enables you to capture moments and create lasting memories without the distraction of your cell phone.
When it comes to generalized lists, it is hard to know what will work best for you because each person has their own unique preferences. Check out this list of bonus ideas from students who have traveled with Royal Servants over the years.
