Why Serving Long-Term Workers Is Worth It

Loving the Locals and Caring For Their Kids
We are into our final week of active ministry for the Morocco team. This week, we have an amazing opportunity to serve at a local orphanage. This particular place is a beautiful facility with a lot of babies and children, but it does not get the volunteers it needs on a daily basis. So, our team is coming in one group at a time and spending time feeding and holding the infants, changing diapers, reading books to the older kids, and playing games with them. It’s heavy-hearted work as our students care for these kids, many with significant disabilities.
Uplifting The Long-Term Workers
We have also offered ourselves as babysitters and housekeepers to the long-term workers in town. For these workers who have spent much of the last year struggling with isolation, transitions, closed schools, and no available childcare, this offer has proven to be a lifeline for them.
“We feel like you just added five years to our time in Morocco,”
They are getting their first husband and wife dates in months, time to get organized, or just a moment of much-needed rest and healing. The response of gratitude has been overwhelming, and we are so grateful to be able to serve in this unique way. “We feel like you just added five years to our time in Morocco,” said one couple because of the babysitting, house cleaning, and notes of encouragement they received from our students.
Our Work Is Not Done
Now, we are in our last days of outreach and will begin debriefing on Friday. I can sense from the team a conflicting feeling of missing home, friends, and family but not wanting to leave just yet. God has given us so many opportunities these last few weeks that it only feels like we are just getting started.
Thankfully, the team is healthy and strong. Their hearts are focused on seizing every opportunity that remains and wasting no time. They’ve learned and grown so much that I predict an intense week of debriefing is much needed as they process how to carry these experiences and lessons home with them.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.
